QUICK GUIDE TO YOUR SPICE CUPBOARD MUST HAVES... CONTINUED
Here at Shop Spicy we recently posted our quick guide to your spice cupboard must haves, touching on many of the very best Indian spices to have in your kitchen in order to create the most amazing authentic Indian dishes.
In this blog we explored a range of different mixes and stand alone spices that give food an awesome flavour, but it was by no means a comprehensive list. This is why we’ve decided to expand on our previous post, adding in a few gems that were left out of our last post!
Think of what follows as an additional guide for both hardcore spice fans and new comers alike.
Asafoetida
This traditional Indian spice comes in both solid resin like form and pre-ground powder (infinitely easier!) and adds a roundness of flavour to dishes, similar to leeks or onions. Use it in any Indian main for excellent taste or even add to soups for a spectacular dish!
Cinnamon
Warming and pungent, this amazing spice needs little introduction! Add to main courses in stick form or sprinkle in powder form over deserts for a delicious treat.
Methi/ Fenugreek Seeds
Tangy and slightly bitter reminiscent of burnt sugar, Methi is an ideal addition to traditional Indian dhal or curries.
Whole Chillies
As with powdered chilli, this spice adds amazing levels of flavour, colour and heat to any spicy dish! Whole chillies add more warmth than its powdered cousin as they contain the seeds as well as the flesh.
Saffron
King of the spices! As the most expensive spice in the world (gram for gram it is more valuable than gold) Saffron offers both a beautiful flavour and colour to rice dishes.
Ginger
Ginger is the perfect warming and aromatic addition to any dish, offering a depth of flavour that is unparalleled by any other spice. You can add in to either a main or a desert dishes for a fantastic mouth watering taste.
At Shop Spicy you can buy any of these spices if your thinking of adding a little extra to spice up your meals.
