Vegan Jalebi Recipe an Authentic Indian Dessert
Jalebi is an Indian Sweet that is prepared across the country. It is deep fried batter in a pretzel sort of shape which is then dipped in sugar syrup.
Jalebi is an authentic Indian dessert which are often prepared during festivals in India.
This recipe shows a simple way to make Vegan Jalebi in your home with little preparation.
Vegan Jalebi
Ingredients:
Sugar Syrup:
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup water
pinch of cardamom powder
pinch of saffron strands crushed
Jalebi:
just about 1/2 cup luke warm water
2 teaspoons sugar
pinch of saffron crushed
1 cup all purpose flour
1 Tablespoon non dairy Yogurt
Oil for frying
Directions:
Sugar Syrup
Take a vessel and add some water. Let the water boil for up to 5 minutes.
Then add the sugar, saffron strands, and the cardamom powder to the water. Let the mixture cook for some more time, once the sugar syrup is ready, turn off the heat and keep it aside.
Jalebi Batter
In a bowl, add warm water, sugar, saffron and mix well.
Mix for a few minutes
Add in the flour, non dairy yogurt and mix well to make a smooth consistency without lumps.
Cover bowl with plastic wrap and keep for a couple of hours.
Pour the mixture into either a hand made cone by using parchment or a zip-lock bag and cut a small hole(1/8 inch) on one side of the zip-lock bag.
Heat oil in a kadhai or deep pan over medium heat until hot.
Starting from the center, squeeze out the batter in circles to make a big concentric circle.
Fry them on medium high heat on both sides, until the Jalebi's turn golden brown.
Transfer Jalebi's into the sugar syrup and remove after 2 minutes.
You're Jalebi's are all done, serve and enjoy!
